Arrival in PKC. Meeting with ES guide. Transfer to the city or Paratunka resort area hotel. Check in. Rest & unwind of travel. In the evening – brief with a mountain guide and checking an equipment.
Breakfast. Transfer to the village of Kozyrevsk (502 km, ≈ 8–10 hours) by a cross-country vehicle. Lunch in the old Cossack settlement of Milkovo. If the weather is fine, on your way there you will see the highest volcanoes of Kamchatka: Krestovsky (4057 m), Ushkovsky (3903 m), Klyuchevskoy (4750 m), Kamen’ (4579 m), Plosky Tolbachik (3082 m) and Ostry Tolbachik (3672 m). Accommodation in guesthouse. Dinner. Russian bath.

Early breakfast. Transfer to the foot of volcanoes Ostry and Plosky Tolbachik – the area of The Great Tolbachik Fissure Eruption in 1975- 1976 years (≈ 4 – 5 hours). The road passes through abandoned fields, forest and ancient lava field, covered with pine trees, cedar elfin wood, berry fields and rises to the boundaries of the Dead Forest. Further, through the Dead Forest, tour to the cones of the North breach of The Great Tolbachik Fissure Eruption. Setting up camp. Hot dinner by the fire. Night in tents.
Breakfast. Ascend the Plosky (Flat) Tolbachik Volcano ≈ 4 – 5 hrs. Observation of the crater and surrounding landscapes ≈ 1 hr. Lunch on the top (lunch box). Descend ≈ 4 hrs. Return to base camp. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Active Plosky (Flat) Tolbachik volcano (3085 m) together with extinct Ostry (Sharp) Tolbachik (3682 m) is the largest volcanic massif in the southwestern sector of the Klyuchevskaya group of volcanoes. The top of Plosky Tolbachik is cut off by a caldera around 3 km in diameter. The caldera is filled to the brims with ice and that makes the volcano look like a plateau nearly 3 km high. In its Western part, there is an active crater. Its depth is about 400 m and diameter is about 2 km. From the top, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Klyuchevskaya sopka – the highest active volcano in Eurasia – 4750 m.
Breakfast. Trekking to the area of New Eruption of the Plosky (Flat) Tolbachik Volcano in 2012 – 2013. You will see the unique lunar landscape and walk along the fresh lava flows. In Soviet times, the first moon rover was experienced here. Picnic lunch. Return to base camp. Hot dinner. Overnight in tents.
Reserve day in case of bad weather.
Breakfast. Trek to the Tolud, the base of volcanologists. The surrounding lunar landscape changes into green meadows and flower glades. Setting up camp. Hot Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Distance – 12 km (≈ 5 – 6 h).
Breakfast. Trek over the Tolud pass (1291 m), located between Plosky Tolbachik and Bolshaya Udina volcanoes. Setting up a camp near the Tolbachinskiy pass. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Distance – 16 km (≈7 h).
Breakfast. Trek over the Tolbachinsky pass (1503 m) to the foot of Bezymyanniy Volcano. On the way, tour round the Mars crater (it is the remains of an ancient volcano) and unique UNESCO protected mountain Polennista, formed of separate basalt pillars. Setting up camp. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Distance – 18 km (8 h).
Breakfast. Ascent of the Bezymyanniy Volcano (2880 m), one of the most active volcanoes in Kamchatka. During the disastrous eruption of 1955 – 1956 years, a powerful explosion tore off the top of the volcano and formed a giant crater. After that a new cone began to grow fast inside Bezymyanniy. Now the volcano shows its obstinate temper and erupts almost every year. At the top of the volcano there is a very powerful gas blowout. The ascent takes ≈ 10 hours. Return to the camp. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Alternative program: Trek to the slopes of the Zimina Volcano (3081 m).
The Zimina Volcano – is a large three-peaks volcanic massif, like a short ridge, stretches to the South from the Bezymyanniy Volcano. Its Western part – the Big Zimina has two peaks: Oval Zimina in the West and Sharp Zimina in the East. It is possible that in ancient times it was independent of each other volcanic cones. The Eastern part of the massif is the Malaya Zimina has another name – Mountain Tooth because of its rocky peaks.
Breakfast. Trek to the Baraniy spring. The route runs through the Studenaya (Cold) River. Wade across the river. In the upper reaches of the river there are several natural monuments – glade of the Red Book edelweiss and “Baraniy” (RAM’s horn) rocks, known for its bizarre shape. Setting up camp. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Distance – 13 km.
Breakfast. Trek to the Kopyto mountain, where a truck (4 / 6 WD) will wait for the group. Driving to ESSO settlement – the cultural center of indigenous people of Kamchatka. Accommodation in hotel / guesthouse. Rest & unwind from travel. Bathing in thermal pool under the open sky. Dinner. Overnight in local hotel.
Rest day. Breakfast. Excursion to the Ethnographic (Even/Koryak) Museum & art galleries. Visit to info-center of Bystrynsky park to see an old documentary from 1920ies shot by a Swede Sten Bergman during his expedition to Kamchatka. Lunch. In the afternoon – visit to Evene’s ethnic-center, introduce with the culture of the indigenous peoples of Kamchatka. Hosts will talk about the history of Aboriginal people, will show a colorful local ethnic dance program, you will taste local dishes & herbal tea with pies. Transfer to hotel / guesthouse. Rest in thermal pool.
Optional*: transfer to the helipad. Flight to the reindeer herd. The way runs over the vast expanses of wild tundra, surrounded by picturesque mountain ranges. Arrival to the herd, meeting with the nomads, learning about their unique culture and way of life, traditions and skills of reindeer herding. Tasting of fresh deer meat cooked on the fire. Rest in the Yurt. Return to Esso.
Early breakfast. Transfer to start point of rafting down Bystraya (Fast) river. Safety instructions. Floating down the river to a fork in the road to PKC. You will not get tired to admire the virgin beauty of nature and get unprecedented pleasure from the rich fishing! It is likely to see a brown bear in the thickets of cedar and birch forest. Lunch on the shore – Russian fish soup “Ukha”.
Landing on ATV 6 WD, drive to PKC (520 km. 8 – 10 hrs.). Accommodation in hotel.

- OPTION 1: Helicopter excursion to the Kuril lake – Ksudach Caldera – Khodutka hot river. Flights take place from the middle of July till the middle of September.
- OPTION 2: Helicopter excursion to the Valley of Geysers – Uzon Caldera – Nalychevo hot springs. Flights take place from June till October. In June landing in Uzon caldera is NOT included.
- OPTION 3: Helicopter excursion to the Ksudach Caldera – Khodutka hot river with overflying of two active volcanoes Mutnovsky & Gorely. Flights take place all year round.
- OPTION 4 (NEW!): Helicopter excursion to Khangar Volcano – Timonovskiye hot springs. Flights take place from July till October.
