Tour program


Arrival in PKC.  Meeting with English-speaking guide. Short city-tour. Transfer to hotel. Check in. Rest & unwind of travel. In the evening – brief with a mountain guide and checking an equipment.


Early breakfast in hotel. Drive to Kozyrevsk settlement on ATV 6 WD. This is a full day driving – 502 km, 8 – 9 hrs.). Along the way, you will stop in an old Cossack village Milkovo for lunch. In a fair weather, you can observe the highest volcanoes of Kamchatka: Krestovsky (4057 m.), Ushkovsky (3903 m.), Klyuchevskoy (4750 m.), Kamen` (4579 m.), Plosky Tolbachik (3082 m.), Ostry Tolbachik (3672 m). Accommodation in guesthouse. Rest. Dinner.


Early breakfast. Drive to the district of Great Tolbachik Fissure Eruption (1975-1976). The road goes through abandoned fields, taiga, on ancient lava’s field with coniferous trees, cedar to border of the Dead forest. Further, through Dead forest –  drive to the Northern cones to Tolbachik volcano area. Set up a camp. Lunch. Walking excursion on the cones (young volcanoes, formed as result of eruption of Tolbachik in 1975 – 1976). Dinner. Overnight in tents.


Breakfast. Ascend the Plosky Tolbachik volcano – 4-5 hrs. Observation of the crater and surrounding landscapes – 1 hr.  Lunch on the top. Descend 4 hrs. Return to base camp. Dinner. Overnight in tents.

Active Plosky (Flat) Tolbachik volcano (3085 m) together with extinct Ostry (Sharp) Tolbachik (3682 m) is the largest volcanic massif in the southwestern sector of the Klyuchevskaya group of volcanoes. The top of Plosky Tolbachik is cut off by a caldera around 3 km in diameter. The caldera is filled to the brims with ice and that makes the volcano look like a plateau nearly 3 km high. In its Western part, there is an active crater. Its depth is about 400 m and diameter is about 2 km. From the top, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Klyuchevskaya sopka – the highest active volcano in Eurasia – 4750 m.


Breakfast. Trekking to the area of New Eruption of Ploskiy (flat) Tolbachik volcano in 2012 – 2013. You will see the unique lunar landscape and walk along the fresh lava flows. In Soviet times, the first moon rover was experienced here. Picnic lunch. Drive back to Kozyrevsk (4 – 5 hrs.). Accommodation in guesthouse. Dinner. Rest and unwind.


Breakfast. Drive to Milkovo settlement (200 km, 3 – 4 hrs.). Accommodation in guesthouse. Walk around the village and visit the Cossack church, the museum and the private collection of a hunter. Acquaintance with the culture of the indigenous people of Kamchatka: visiting of national Evens’ dwelling “Ochen”. Dinner.


A day in Milkovo for floating & fishing along Kamchatka river on motor boats (the biggest river on the peninsula).


Breakfast. Drive back to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city (310 km, 4 – 5 hrs.) Accommodation in hotel. Rest & unwind.


Early breakfast in hotel. Drive to the foot of Mutnovsky volcano (2323m) – 3,5 – 4 h. Trekking to the crater. Seeing active fumaroles, mud siphons, mud craters, mountain lake. The crater of volcano Mutnovsky is one of the most wonderful volcanic phenomenon of Kamchatka. Steep walls surround wide and deep crater, with shining glaciers. Ascending takes 7-10 hours. Set a tent camp. Hot dinner. Overnight in tents.

DAY 10

Breakfast. Drive to Gorely volcano (1829m). Ascend to the top – walk along the coulee (hardened lava-stream), slag fields, seeing a few craters with a beautiful ice- lake in one of it. Lunch-picnic at the top of volcano viewing fantastical panorama: mountain peaks, shores of Pacific Ocean and numerous canyons surrounding the area. The excursion takes 6-8 hours.  Drive to the city with stop for bathing in wild hot springs. Accommodation in hotel.

DAY 11

Breakfast in hotel. Drive to boat terminal for chartered 6-hours excursion with sailing to the “Three Brothers” rocks and to the Starichkov Island (without coming ashore). In summer time the picturesque shores of the Starichkov Island attract a lot of tourists and divers.  If you’re lucky, besides the bird colonies, you will be able to see some sea mammals, including sea otters, seals, and even whales. In the sea, not far from the shore of the island there are Karaulny and Chasovoy kekurs (sea rocks which were formed by marine sediments). A pair of sea eagles, registered in the “Red Book of Russian Federation” (the book of rare species) lives on the Karaulny kekur. On board you will be offered a lunch with Russian fish soup “Ukha”.  Return to the city. Transfer to ethnic center with kennel of sled dogs and deer. Program with folklore show and farewell dinner. Drive back to the hotel.

Optional program*: helicopter excursion (weather permitting) to the Kuril lake – the Kingdom of brown bear or to the Valley of Geysers.

DAY 12

Breakfast. Transfer to airport. Departure.
